The Aspen Grove

There is an aspen grove covering a mountainside, almost a mile long, thousands and thousands of trees, but they are all interconnected below the surface by their roots. But it goes much deeper than that, they all share the exact same DNA, where each tree thrives as part of a larger community, their interconnectedness allows aspens to communicate and share resources, enabling them to withstand challenges together.

The aspen grove is much like an organization with strong culture. You see all of its people working independently and in teams, but below the surface they are all connected. The roots they are connected by are how they communicate, they all share a vision, an identity and a common purpose. They all feel valued and aligned with the organization’s core values, they are more engaged and motivated to contribute to collective success.
